5. Honor Your Father And Mother

Exodus 20 v 12
12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
Many will think to honor your father and mother is nothing more than just doing what they ask us to do, but the word honor can imply many other things for instance.
Words Such as blamelessness, character, conscientiousness, decency, fairness, high-mindedness, incorruptibility, justice, morality, nobility, reputability, respectability, scrupulousness, virtue, virtuousness, these are words that also fall into the description of honor.
We also hear the Word honor on our wedding day, when we are asked, do you promise to love, obey and to honor her all the days of your life.
So to honor your father and mother, is much more than just obeying their requests or demands, it’s living your Life in a way that will not shame them, to show them respect, to do what is morally correct, to follow the laws of God so you will live a blameless life therefore keeping with the 5th Commandment.
I love your thoughts and agree with this post wholeheartedly. I read the same devotion to my children this morning about how we dishonor our parents when we do things that bring them shame. Just wanted you to know that this blog took my thoughts a step farther. Thanks!
For children to have long and blessed life, they have to honor their parents. As a parent, I strive to teach my girls to honor their elders for them to be Godly blessed and this should be taught by personal example. Hard, isnt it? No matter what kind of parents we have, no exemption, we have to honor for the sake of making ourselves worthy to receive the promised blessings of the fifth command.
